Hart Megibben has been practicing law in Shelby and the surrounding counties since graduating from law school and passing the bar in 1992. Hart, who currently serves as the Shelby County Attorney, a position he has held since February of 2005, joined Neal & Davis, PLLC in early 2019. He focuses his practice on probate and real estate matters as well business formations and collections.
Hart grew up in Shelby County and graduated from Shelby County High School in 1984. After getting a B.A. in history from the University of Kentucky in 1989, he attended and earned his law degree from the University of Louisville School of Law. Prior to becoming the Shelby County Attorney Hart served as an assistant commonwealth’s attorney for the 53rd Judicial Circuit for approximately five years before joining the Shelby County Attorney’s Office in 1999 as an assistant, a position he held until his appointment as the county attorney. As county attorney Hart was named outstanding county attorney of the year by the Kentucky Attorney General in 2011.
Hart is currently a member of the University of Kentucky Alumni Association and the Shelby County Cattleman’s Association. Previously he was a member of Shelbyville Rotary Club and the Shelbyville Lions Club. He also served as president of the Shelby County Chapter of the University of Kentucky Alumni Association as well as vice-president of the Shelbyville Chamber of Commerce. Additionally, he volunteered with the high school football programs at Shelby County and Marta Layne Collins High School from 1993 until 2017.
Hart resides in Shelbyville with wife Angie and German Shepherd “Otis.” He and Angie have two adult children, Eli and Mary-Clare.
